On 2.7 and growing in general
It's no reason to code something hard, when there's the way to do it as a plugin.
In 2.5 it was a gravatars support I didn't welcome – because I don't see much sense in that feature plus (before all other reasons) I need it really rarely. So why this feature has to enlarge the (big) pack I upload (sometimes) and why it has to slow down the (slow) CMS (all the time) – although I'm not using it at all? Plugin philosophy is a great philosophy and these steps of hardcoding walk against it.
In 2.7 there are paged comments, threaded comments and maybe something more. Just features you allready can have via plugins. Now you can't have it anymore, you have to have it. Gorgeous.
Sure there are some good things about 2.7, like extended media settings, uploading of to-no-post-connected media files (what is actually fixing of the current immature media management system). Not speaking about admirable efforts of Jacob Santos who is (as far as I know) the main (only?) author of the WP's inline documentation. But I don't speak about nice things too much. Getting better is implicit direction of evolution, critique of incorrect direction, pointing out subjectively incorrect directions can be helpful. It's the „wrong way“ warning.

I quit working with WordPress, comments are closed. My plugins will not be updated any more – at least not by me. Feel free to modify my source codes though… Also I am not able to provide support, sorry. –Kahi
