Upgrade your WordPress efficiently

Published: On Thursday, December 30, 2010

Since the end of July (when version 3.0.1 was released):
  • three minor upgrades were published
  • so we updated our sites three times
  • so we let our servers download the 3 MB package three times (9 MB)
  • and unpack them and rewrite over 800 files (2400 files).
  • Because in total 25 files were modified (250 KB to download)

With about 10 million WP installations it means 80 TB traffic of useless data during the recent six months. Well, this amount of data may flow from YouTube in a few hours – but these terabytes can't be reduced so easily.

Maybe you want to download a diff and put it there by FTP. Submit, then link is at the bottom.

I quit working with WordPress, comments are closed. My plugins will not be updated any more – at least not by me. Feel free to modify my source codes though… Also I am not able to provide support, sorry. –Kahi
