Voted for media features in 2.9

Published: On Thursday, July 9, 2009

On topic of the recent (and today still running) survey on media handling / library / related settings and similar stuff I want to say a little word.

I don't fully understand all of the proposed enhancements, although they were „explained“ in the announcing article as well as at beginning of the survey itself. I think it's sometimes possible to imagine various (quite different) things under each of the definitions.

I can't say how much I a particular feature want, since each feature can be implemented in many ways and the way of implementation can influence my „desire“ for feature very much (I suppose). That makes answering even more complicated.

About the results: I'm not sure who are the people answering this survey – are they the developers? Or ordinary WP user that came from their dashboards? Because I think this really matters – who the people are, especially when we speak about following part of survey (on the screenshot). Here in Q4, I myself don't fully understand (again) pros and cons of each offered option. I can only guess the differences. Do you understand what each option means and what would its adoption mean for your further experience with WP?

I'm afraid that to understand this part was not-so-simple only for me but other people also had to decide with help of uncertain feelings instead of „measuring“ the objective implications (which would be the right way to answer any survey, in my opinion)…

(Sure, I was deciding between options 2 and 3.)

Thanks to WP Engineer for opening a topic to think about.

Update: Jeffro at WordPress Tavern apparently had similar problems with understanding question #4. In comments below that article are some attempts to explain. Some of that comments might even be made by WordPress core developers (who probably do know the exact meaning of the phrase „canonical plugin“) but since I can't recognize these authors for sure, I'd really appreciate some advice or better an official statement. (To be confirmed that I voted for a good thing(s)).
